Wind Simulation: Bringing Data to Life

As a designer, I harness the power of wind data to create immersive visualizations and animations, allowing me to witness how theoretical concepts unfold in real-world scenarios. A prime example is my wind simulation project for downtown San Francisco. By analyzing wind patterns and environmental impacts early in the design process, I can mitigate potential issues, optimize site selection, and ultimately reduce costs.

Unlocking Insights through Visualization

My wind simulation animation brings complex data to life, illustrating how wind patterns evolve over time and interact with buildings. The visualization displays wind velocity magnitude, with red indicating speeds of up to 17.29 mph and darker blue representing areas with minimal wind activity (near 0 mph). This successful study demonstrates my ability to generate accurate wind simulations for any location on Earth, at any time of year, using organic data. My model boasts an impressive accuracy rate of approximately 92%.

Harnessing the Power of Data-Driven Design

By integrating wind simulation into my design workflow, I can:

  • Mitigate potential issues related to wind patterns and environmental impacts

  • Optimize site selection and building orientation

  • Reduce costs associated with wind-related design changes

  • Enhance building performance and occupant comfort
